The Palouse (WA/ID) slide show The images in this gallery were taken on a recent trip to the Palouse. In the years I've been photographing there this was by far the best conditions I've had: beautiful clear light, extraordinary skies, and wind to move them, creating moving shadows on the land. Magical!
Ireland slide show Being of Irish ancestry I longed to go to my homeland. Over the past 20 years I have spent nearly four months traveling 10,000 miles on the "wrong side" of the road, exploring the back roads of this unbelievably beautiful country. The images here are a brief visual representation of my travels. Two of the images received awards from National Geographic and were published by them. Because of this recognition I was designated an "honorary ambassador to Ireland" by the Killarney Urban District Council in 1998.
Travel slide show
Cuba slide show The images in this gallery were taken when a group of my photographer/friends went to Cuba to celebrate the 20th anniversary of my 50th birthday! What a wonderful time we shared. The people were very friendly and welcoming. We spent five nights in Havana and four nights in Trinidad (Cuba).
China slide show My objective on this photo trip was to capture the unbelievable beauty of the rice terraces near Yuanyang, Yunnan Province, China. During the months of Dec-Mar the terraces are flooded with water to grow the rice. These terraces took over 1,000 years to build! My good friends, Grace and Phil Yeh, from New York made this trip possible. Without them I could not have gone at all. Joining me for this photo journey was a friend and business colleague, Tom Davis, from Mississippi.
Landscapes slide show I almost always distill the scene into smaller segments after studying the photographic possibilities that lay before me. Often times this is because the skies lacked drama, or color. At other times there might be objects in the scene that prevent the making of a successful image. So I have learned over the years to look for what others often miss. If you study these images, you will find them. The thumbnail image gives you a hint as to what to look for.
Frank O. Gehry Architecture slide show
American Southwest slide show The images in this gallery were taken during a photo tour co-lead by my good friend, John Barclay. We traveled over 3,000 miles and covered a wide variety of locations. This is a representation of our trip. More images will be added as time permits.

Floral Abstracts slide show For the past two years I have painstakingly produced the images in this gallery, sometimes spending several hours finding just the right composition while working with as few as 1-2 millimeters of sharpness. The more I do of this kind of photography the more I work toward the most basic elements of design--a specific color, a simple line, a texture, a shape or form. Not all of these images were difficult to make. Nonetheless, this is some of the most challenging photography I have ever done.
In-Camera Effects slide show This area of photography feeds my creative soul. It is fun and whimsical. Included here are montages, multiple exposures, "swipes" (or pans as some call them), in-camera overlays, and a variety of other techniques. Please refer to the Mentoring section of the Photographic Society of America's web site: http://psa-newmember.org/firstyearhappenings/in_camera_effects.html where you can discover how these effects can be produced. Simply copy and paste the above link.
Water slide show Nature's beauty is bountiful. And of this endless bounty, reflections are a subject that have always fascinated me. They are there to see, if one will take the time to find and study them. Most of these images were taken during the autumn and winter months, and are some of my all-time favorites. Even when shooting back to back images of the same scene, no two images are ever alike.
Details slide show I am naturally drawn to the smallest pieces of the landscape before me. This gallery represents the things I see in this process.
Odds and Ends slide show Sometimes I feel like making an image without having a reason or a specific place for it. It could be a black and white, or a subject that I was drawn to because of its serendipitous nature. In other words, the images in this gallery just don't fit anywhere else!
iPhoneography slide show iPhoneography is a fairly recent addition to the field of serious photography. There is a whole new movement of photographers who use their iPhones to capture images and modify them with applications downloaded from the Apple App Store. iPhoneography groups are forming, with many pros using their iPhones to capture images that they would otherwise not have taken. This gallery is just a beginning of my journey into this genre. It is fun and liberating!
New Work slide show The imagery in this category was captured over the past two years, including my most recent trip to San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato, Mexico. I have also included a few iPhone images which were taken during this past year, and enhanced with a variety of apps using a variety of techniques.
